Keynote Speech: Africa’s Growth and Position in the Global Economy

In May 2025, I had the honor of delivering the keynote speech at the RMB – Rand Merchant Bank’s 2025 Think Summit in Cape Town, South Africa. I spoke about Africa’s Growth and Position in the Global Economy. The summary of my talk is thus: to achieve prosperity, equity and stability, African countries must industrialize their economies, but during this process of transformation, they will have to navigate a more turbulent global economy fraught with geopolitical tensions.

Here is the video replay of the full speech as well as the Q&A session, afterwards, with award-winning South African journalist and broadcaster, Fifi Peters.

  1. Dr Usman

Greetings from this spot on planet earth.

I have watched and re-watched this presentation. I also went back to your Nextier presentation and conversation. Question on my mind is have you focused or undertaken a critical analysis of the 19 Northern States of Nigeria and the economic future of the States as a bloc, geo political zones et al and the economic viability and sustainability of the States as part of the Federation of Nigeria or in the thinkable scenario of becoming separated from Nigeria considering the incumbent administration appears to be forging ahead with political decisions that accentuate and exacerbate the economic disparities inter se the 19 Northern State and intra Nigeria between the 19 Northern States and Southern Nigeria.

What would you suggest to the 19 Northern States as a bloc, or individual political entities with commonalities, as well as the political leadership of Northern Nigeria.

Thank you for the exceedingly excellent deployment of your insights.

    Sincerely

    Aminu .
